EVERY TREMOR OF YOUR HEART HE FEELS – of death, love & separation

226330_10150169952279023_4175171_nWhere My Mother Is
I am missing a breath
With every beat of my heart
Since the day you breathed your last,

Since you skipped any more tomorrows
I am living half of my life in the past
And the other half in a sweet sorrow.

Even as people see me living,
I know that I am in truth only dreaming,
And through the window of my soul
I am sadly peering,

To where my mother is,
To where my brother is,
In a beautiful peace.
……….

This is the first observation, and I dare say a sentiment shared by anyone whose loved ones have arrived there in the Hereafter after our short stint in this world. Our departed father or mother, our sister or brother, our  beloved kin or friends, they have all discarded this vessel of clay and water that we presently continue to animate.

And this is the second observation…

1239623_10200377345066459_319749956_nWhole Once Again
The wound is as fresh as the day
Your sweet eyes closed never to open again,

And this separation remains as poignant as
The joyful expectancy to be with you,
When finally, finally… finally…

I am made whole once again.
……...

Along this thread I came across a third observation, and this is it – If we bumbling clowns of humanity can feel such profound sorrow in separation and the bittersweet expectation of a reunion with our dearly departed, how do we reckon God Almighty feels when we are cast into this world through the womb of our mothers?

Even as the Almighty knows the fate of every star, every atom and every living soul?

For I do believe Allah feels. And as His Prophet Muhammad (sws) is known as Sayyidina Harisun Alaykum (sws) – ‘He Who Is Anxious Over You’, do we think his Lord Almighty is unfeeling? Uncaring?

26062011446-2So have faith in Allah’s plan, my love, and in the temporary absence of our dearly departed. For every tremor of your heart, every sigh of separation, every tear that escapes your eyes He feels. In a manner and nearness that you can barely fathom…

Believe me!

THE GREATEST GIFT FROM GOD

20150804123718_resizedThe one & the one to be blame
In the kingdom of love,
A sin is a sin even if
You are not to be blamed.

For in the Kingdom of Love
Where the Lord is King,
Who else can be blamed
But he to whom
Belongs your
Name?
………..

Just Say Sorry. If you are familiar with romantic love and perhaps even married life, how often have you found yourself admitting to things which were not your fault? How many times have you, through gritted teeth, spoken those three magical words “I am sorry” and “Please forgive me“, while holding down your rebellious reason aching to correct your beloved’s misconception and holler, “But it is NOT my fault!

He he he. You know what I mean.

god 2But who is the one actually fond of blaming others? Now consider your entire life. Indeed, your very creation, and how you relate to God Almighty. For Allah (swt) has made it abundantly clear that He makes no mistakes, He is furthest from any concept of error, perfect in every action that He does or permits to happen, and perfect in every absence or omission that He prevails upon us. Yes, of course some bad things do occur through a third party machinations, say a burglar or a traitorous friend. But even then, it would not have happened had not Allah Almighty permitted the burglary or betrayal to happen. So do we blame God then, like how lawyers call Force Majeure as Acts of God, like flood, earthquakes and droughts?

Yes, we do. You know what I mean. We blame God a lot. Perhaps not spoken, but secretly whispered in our soul by our finger-pointing ego. And perhaps no one else can hear them, but do you think you can hide your feelings from our Creator?

So you see, all this judging and placing the blame is very much a part of our selves. Our rationale mind, subtly manipulated by our ego are always eager to place blame for everything bad that happens… so long as someone else is the one to be blamed, even God. And if you study the underlying causes in the rise of atheism especially in the West, the perception that God is somehow the cause of great evil upon us at a very personal level is one major factor in turning a man’s belief into disbelief. Sad but true.

mountain-climber-silhouette2THE GREATEST GIFT. How fortunate are we then, my love, that we have been blessed to stumble into saints who are tirelessly guiding mankind towards the true perception of Allah (swt) in All His Loving Attributes. And although we have done nothing to deserve Allah’s generosity He has sworn upon His own Name that He is the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful, Most Generous and Most Loving for his creation – the most manifest evidence of His generosity and eternal concern for us being nothing and no one else but the prophethood of His Beloved, Nabi Muhammad Sayyidina Habibullah Harisun Alaykum (sws), divinely ordained to be our master and guardian, and to watch over us constantly, 24/7.

By the proof of such divine kindness, o’ Lord, how else shall we approach Thee but through the Door of Witnessing and the Door of Forgiveness?

There is so much to learn, you see, in the intimacies of mortal love, and its direct analogies to the Divine Presence and Divine Love. Through such lessons, may Allah (swt) permit us to endear ourselves to His Pleasure by being in the company of the One He Loves the Most, our beloved Prophet Muhammad Sayyidina Nabiyit Taubah, the Prophet of Repentance (sws).

TO GOD ALL LIFE IS PRECIOUS …but man is often forgetful

Sheep_with_their_shepherd,_mat01285The Lord of the Creatures We Eat
Thou think My love is only for thee?
For thy kin, thy friends and thy property?
What of the sky, the river and the valleys?
What of the birds, the earth and the trees?

When thou slaughter an animal
That I have made permissible for thee
That thou might eat and live,

How does thou think I feel?
Of all sadness am I free?
………..

The Zawiya. Last week I was at a familiar old zawiya (sufi tariqa establishment) in my neighbourhood. I am blessed that way, you see. I do not have to journey far to reach a zawiya, even walking would take me a mere 10 minutes tops. But I seldom go because alas, I am also lazy that way. May Allah Almighty cure me of this slovenly attitude. Pray for me, sunshine.

IMG_20160703_060212_resized_1The Five Sheep. Anyways, after the morning prayers and assorted supererogatory devotions, the visiting shaykh (master) of the tariqa proceeded to slaughter five sheep made ready by our resident farmer and shepherd. Throughout the ceremony, the shaykh recited the dzikrullah (words of remembrance of God) and I was aware of a poignant moment – That within this next few minutes, the worldly life of a living, breathing creature would, Godwilling, be terminated. To cease to breath the air that we humans too share, to cease to look upon the world that we humans also dwell in, to end its life for the sole purpose of feeding mankind. The solemnness of this ceremony gripped me and I am afraid that I let a tear or two break free from my cold hard eyes.

Divine Mourning. For in the midst of this emotional ride, a thought crossed the wilderness of my conscience – ” O’ Taufiq. If you feel this way, how do you think God Almighty feels, loving not only humans, but all of His creation with a love you can only imagine in its shallowest human manifestation. Do you think Allah (swt) does not mourn the demise of these anonymous sheep? Surely, mankind reckons and judges things by what he knows personally, but do you think the Creator All-Knowing (al-Alim) does not know these sheep that are about to be slaughtered for your sake? “

Oak_Tree_ComboMortal Error. It is our folly we are rarely aware of the value in Allah (swt)’s gift – That He permits his most favoured creation that is Man to slaughter and consume another of His creation. This gift, like all of Allah Almighty’s blessings is not one to the taken lightly. Alas, I do not think there is much room for ceremony in the factory-like abattoir that now serves our consumption-driven society. This lack of respect for God’s creation and our fellow being is not without its karmic backlash. Ergo, the prosperous diseases that now afflict us like high cholesterol, diabetes, gout and the like.

If we learn to respect animals and the environment as Allah’s own property, will this world not be a better place, and us healthier physically and spiritually? In the name of God and by the guiding lamp that is our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saws), we can surely make good strides  by abiding to the holy Quran and the divinely inspired sunnah (traditions) of the Habibullah (Beloved of God s.a.w.s.) who wastes not and is hypersensitive to the smallest and meanest of God’s creation.

Shall we strive this way, sunshine? Is this month of Ramadan not  the best month to forge our intention?

A KING MOST PURE, MOST COMPASSIONATE… and a Prophet Sublime in the Art of Thankfulness

non1. You Write The Story
You write the story,
So write an end for me,
Good or bad.

Just promise never to leave me
To the coldness
Of Your indifference.
…………

Good or Bad End? *Gulp* That is a little worrying, is it not, my friend? But since when is God ever a bad writer? He cannot write anything bad, after all, the root word of good is God. It simply would not be in His character. As the Muslims say, “Subhana Malikul Quddus…” Glory unto the King the Holiest, the Most Pure, the One who is pure, spotless, without blemish or fault, the One whose essence and attributes are of unimaginable purity and perfection (al-Quddus is one of God’s 99 Names, the Asma al Husna. Credit to an elaboration at http://wahiduddin.net/words/wazifa.htm)

begging

Despite the arguments of the neo-atheists, indifference to human sorrow is not a Godly attribute.

Thank God for God and His Prophet. ‘Man is not an island’ that old saying goes. But sometimes we feel that way, normally after some sad ending of sorts – a break-up, a death, a notice to vacate, being fired from your job. Nonetheless, however foul we feel, there is at least one person who will lend an ear, someone who will never ignore us in our dire straits, who never tires to listen to our moans and woe begotten groans at our life’s pitfalls. Such is the attribute of the Lord Almighty, coming from the all-encompasing assurances and guidance contained in the holy Quran and the Sunnah (prophetic traditions) that is the faith of Muhammad (saws). So Thank God for God then, sunshine, and thank God for the Prophet (saws) who awakens the most sleepy soul into a state of sublime gratitude.

Now isn’t this a nice little tale to bring to the campfire of your conscience?26062011446-2

THE GIFT OF YOU…

Camera 360THE GIFT OF YOU
Often God offers man a quicker way,
A shorter path, a gift.
We find four responses…

First, The deniers will say, “This cannot be!
The path must be hard, long
And no reward save those earned
In its strict and measured way!
God is simply not that magnanimous!”

Secondly, some among you
Will be thankful to the Lord,
Counting their blessings
And rightfully so.

Thirdly and for a few,
This is their converse,
“For the satisfied, bless them, o God!
But we are your stray dogs,
Mendicants huddling
And hiding in the alleyways
And dead ends of creation,
And we fear, this blessing is not enough,
If you grant us more, Your generosity will not
Exhaust your treasury by a single iota!”
Thus they ask and plead from God.

And now we find ourselves with the fourth and final group,
And to these strange fellows even an inexhaustible sea of blessings
Will not be adequate to sate their thirst,

For they are asking, “o Love, we seek Thee;
The One, The First!
Not out of piety but in realising
That however much good we do,
And whatever the blessings that You may bestow,
There is no gift better to desire,
Than the gift of You.”

So now, Saliqa,
Of these four groups,
Whom do you belong to?
………………

Camera 360Explanatory Note: The first group of deniers and naysayers, who are accustomed to their own interpretation of religious edicts, fumes at the idea of God giving undeserved respite to a sinner. These are whom I call God’s own killjoys. The second group are blessed, being grateful and thankful and waiting upon more of the Lord’s generpsity with patience and propriety. The third group are the good sinners, woefully in touch with the confessions of their sins, both hidden and apparent, and desiring always more of Allah’s (swt) generosity, and they are also blessed. But the fourth, they are something else. They are not actually interested with anything other than the Creator Himself. No blessings, no merit, no rewards, no ease, no relief, nothing created and separate from Allah our Lord do they consider the ultimate goal and gift. And while they will readily accept such rewards from their God with thankfulness, yet they turn to Him, and yet their hearts and their tongue speak a prayer impudent but sincere -

My Lord, thank You.
But among this treasure than
You have bestowed upon me,
Where is the Gift that I truly seek?
The Gift of You?
………..

But then consider this in the calm pool of your spirit – There is no gift truly worth desiring but God, and the Messenger bearing this Gift  is His beloved Nabi Muhammad (saws).

So maybe they are not so impudent after all nor over-reaching their station. They are really only reflecting upon the Muslim’s attestation of faith, bearing witness that -

There is no god but God, and Muhammad is His Messenger.

So back to the million dollar question, o’ Saliqa (seeker) – of the four group, whom do you belong to?

THE DERVISH & THE NINETY-NINE

IMGThe Dervish & The Ninety-Nine
Come to Love,
See how bliss Love is,

Say Love’s names
And die for Love’s kiss,

Behind the veil,
His love is tested and teased,

Through snow, rain and hail
Love feeds his heart and breaks his will,

However far the wandering trail
Walks the dervish while the world sleeps,

Exalted is Love in every forest, hill and vale
With Ninety-Nine written on his lips.
…………….

TGIF. Well, thank God it is Friday, sunshine. And thank God for you and for me, for our cat named Moses and thank God for our shaykhs (masters). Thank God for our Nabi Muhammad Sayyidina Miftahur Rahman wa Miftahul Jannah (our Prophet Muhammad, Master Key to Divinely Mercy and the Heavenly Gardens). And of course most importantly… thank God for God Himself, Allahu Rahman (God Most Compassionate) and Allahu Rahim (God Most Merciful). Even for a sinner, there is many thankings to do today. He he he. These are just 2 divine names from ninety-nine that is revealed to mankind. May we be blessed to learn and benefit from more of God’s Divine Names, in their infinitely subtle depths of meaning.

Come on, sunshine… The dervish is just a little further up the path. We must follow the perfume of love that beckons us to his saintly footsteps!

ALLAH & THE CONSTANCY OF HIS LOVE

NASA-SpiralGalaxyM101-20140505

THE CONSTANT LOVE. Yesterday evening my city was visited by a thunder storm, which reminded me of God’s power and brilliance. But truth be told, such thunderous display is but one example of His might, and one aurally and visually arresting. But what of His power which sustains and cherishes all of creation quiet like, without much fanfare – such as the power that animates electrons and atoms, the logic of mathematics, the very essence of light and the hidden attraction of gravity. All of which God Almighty does in an expression of the constancy of His love for His creation. Not for a moment does Allah (swt) linger or delay in His succour to us, thus why are we not just as attentive in our worship of our Lord and charity to our fellow creatures?

pebbles_in_a_stream_2_by_vbmonkey26-d8vkitp

THE PROPHET. Surely, this is why we are called upon to follow in the sunnah (traditions) of our Prophet Muhammad (saws), in whose perfected adab (manners) we can witness a human being in a constant state of effacement to His Lord, while continuing to serve His Lord through service to His Lord’s creation. May we be reminded of our Nabi Muhammad’s loving constancy, so we may strive in our own constancy towards our beloved Lord!

SquirrelTreeTHE ALL ENCOMPASSING LOVE. God’s love for His creation is not just constant but also all encompassing. And no, not just for us silly humanity and djinn, but for everything – seen and unseen, temporal or spiritual, large or small, sentient or otherwise. Every atom, every electron, every squirrel in the tree, every bee in the hive, every pebble and stone, every sun and star, every galaxies in the night sky and beyond – all this and more are created and sustained with His divine love. And such is His Majesty than He can give His love to all without reducing one iota from His endless oceans of love!

THE GOLDEN CHAIN. This is love as is taught to the saliqas (seekers) by the Awliyas (saints) of Allah through out the ages. In a direct heart transmission of divine knowledge and adab, the  mureeds (students) of the tariqas (the Sufi Paths) are connected through their sheikhs (masters), to the mashaykhs (grandmasters) and ultimately to the Seal of the Prophets and the Master of the Saints, Nabi Muhammad Sayydina Miftahur Rahman (saws). Each interlocking chain in a golden chain that connects all of humanity from the lowest beggarly sinner to the Majestic Love, Mercy and Beauty that is our Lord Allah (swt).

HE WHO HONOURS THE BEGGAR – the grace of asking and the trap of ‘knowing’

Camera 360The Prison & The Elixir
Knowing is the prison,
The poison of Love,

It is the state of asking,
Yearning and desiring
That is Love’s true elixir,

Or are you so deaf and blind
To your utter state of need
That knowing something
Gives you comfort?

Verily, such assurance
Is wildly deceptive!
……………..

Slide1It is not knowledge that we abhor. It is the state of ‘owning’ knowledge that we fear when we say “I know!” or “So I am informed!”. For goodness sake, what is it that we know? What is it that we are so well informed of? Is our knowledge complete? Is there none higher than us who may perhaps know better? Who knows best of all? Who understands us and this world with the minute knowledge and understanding that surpasses human conjecture? Who perhaps knows all this well enough simply because God created us and the rest of Creation for his sake? Praises and most high salutations upon him that we are speaking of!

Knowing stuff? Bah! We have come across many who ‘knows’ religion, wearing their knowledge like disguises, dresses and robes that they wear and take off according to their whim. A wardrobe of knowledge to fool the world and themselves. Allah (swt) save us from such hubris and deceit! Glory upon Allah (swt) for He protects his Habibullah (saws) from such error!

Upon your knees, my love. Abase your ego to the Knower. Prostrate yourself upon the altar of the Forgiver. Declare your need to the Nourisher and Sustainer. Ask for illumination from the Light. Seek love from the Lover. Seek peace from Peace. Seek all this from Allah as how the Rasulullah (saws) has shown you.

There is no shame in asking. For you are just asking questions to He who set the questions Himself. Really, He is simply replying to Himself. But you, for a moment in history, you have become an instrument of Divine Plan, an honoured servant of the Nation of Muhammad (saws).

Alhamdulillah, only Allah Almighty honours he who is begging and pleading!

beggingWith that in mind, how do we treat the beggar in the street? The orphan tugging at our sleeve, asking for change? We are that beggar that we ignore. We are the orphan that we spurn and turn aside from. Forgive us o’ Lord, when we wrong ourselves. Oh Lord High, how sublime is Your own Manners, how magnificent and munificent are Your own Courtesies! You are asking us to follow You, but how can we without You? Without Your Muhammad (saws) to lead us in every moment of our existence in this ego-centric world?

We ask Allah (swt) through the manifestation of Divine favours that is our beloved Nabi Muhammad (saws) to make us understand and submit to His plan, without the hubris of possession over such understanding. This is an important distinction to consider, 0′ my son, 0′ my daughter.

So go on, sunshine. Ask away. What? You are not a Muslim? You are a Jew, a Christian, a Hindu? An agnostic, an atheist? We will attend to such technical issues later, but for now He who asks to be asked is waiting for your questions, in the Garden of Love where the answers are poised in the cordial of His Mercy. For His Love for you is unparalleled and incomparable to any worldly love you may have tasted. So do not be shy in your asking…
